Quan Chi had previously appeared in Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero and in the TV show Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm, however this is his first appearance in a fighting game and in which he is playable. MK4 added a "Maximum Damage" cap to the game's combo system, automatically breaking combos if they deal over a set amount of damage to a player and, thus, preventing infinite combos (although this cap can be removed with a code). If an opponent's weapon is dropped, the other character is able to pick it up and use it. The weapons can also be purposely dropped, in similar fashion to arena objects such as severed heads and rocks, another addition to the series. This includes swinging, clubbing or even tossing the weapons. Once equipped, the weapons are primarily used through the punch buttons. MK4 introduces a limited weapon system, allowing each character to take out a special weapon using a set button combination.

Mortal Kombat 4 is played in a similar way to the previous titles from the series the run button and combos are still used, and despite the 3D graphics, characters are restricted to a 2D path except of sidestepping. Kenshi’s goal: take down a fully cybernetic Kano and his Black Dragon clan. The film explores how Kenshi loses his eyesight and trains to become the master swordfighter that fans have loved since his debut in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. The new movie tells the origin story of Kenshi, who tags up with Sub-Zero to kombat Outworld’s usual suspects and keep the peace (or as peaceful as this universe can get). Snow Blind, the next installment in the Mortal Kombat Legends animated film series, got its first trailer today ahead of its October release.
